Director, Communications & Public Relations - The Miami Football Club (Miami, FL)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective


The Director of Communications & PR will assist the VP of Marketing & Communications in developing and executing the communication and public relations strategies for The Miami Football Club. The ideal candidate will be a creative, ambitious and efficient leader, who possesses the ability to adapt quickly in a challenging and ever-changing market.  This role will be integral in creating, planning and executing year-round communication strategies, overseeing the development of compelling social and digital daily content, assist in the positioning of the club’s brand in the marketplace, and engaging with local, regional, national and international media outlets to generate coverage of The Miami FC.  Additional responsibilities will include copywriting, the generation of all publications including media guides, match day programs, match day notes and statistics, leading the Communications team on match day, coordinating on-site media coverage at matches and training, traveling with the club for away matches, and managing the content for all club social media platforms.

Essential Functions

·         Oversee the day to day operations of the communications, public relations, social and digital media efforts.

·         Plan and execute year-round communication strategies to build the club’s brand, increase engagement and drive revenue.

·         Develop and pitch potential media content, write press releases and effectively engage local media members with editorial ideas.

·         Develop social strategy and utilize analytics to ensure that club messaging and content is on-brand and on-target. 

·         Cultivate strong, working relationships with local and regional radio, TV, bloggers, influencers and other media entities.

·         Manage the flow of content and communications through the club’s official website and mobile app, including stories, match recaps, player profiles, ticketing information, scheduling and stats, and CSR initiatives.

·         Manager the development and publication of the Miami FC media guide, match previews and recaps, match day program, communication sheet and others as assigned. 

·         Manage the Comms/PR day-to-day operational budget.

·         Supervise and oversee staff of one full-time Communications Manager and one to two part-time interns.  

·         Write company press releases, media alerts, match previews as well as provide compelling creative writing for Ticket Sales and Corporate Partnership sales materials, presentations and recaps.

·         Develop media policy for players, coaches and club administrators and conduct training as necessary.

·         Support upper management and ownership with speech and talking points preparation.

·         Coordinate match day media, including press box operations, in-house photographers and videographers as well as outside media placement.  Facilitate the credentialing process for all media requests, in compliance with the team’s operational and communications policies.

·         Coordinate annual media kickoff event, including interviews with coaches, players and executives, as well as kit reveal, photo and video shoots.

·         Track and analyze KPI’s and success of media coverage, social engagement and growth of digital platforms.

·         Assist in the recruitment of ideal candidates for part-time and seasonal positions.

·         Assist VP of Marketing & Communications in leveraging opportunities through media partners and cash investments.

·         Act as a liaison of the Miami FC in Miami’s diverse Hispanic community and assist in the continued growth of strong partnerships with Spanish language media outlets and the South Florida soccer community.

·         Utilize local soccer writers, bloggers and influencers to cultivate the Miami FC fan base and advance the influence of soccer throughout South Florida.

·         Develop communication strategy to further awareness and success of the Miami FC’s One Goal CSR programs, including the Community Keepers volunteer platform, the mini-pitch project and The Miami FC Foundation.

·         Collaborate with Marketing & CSR teams to increase player engagement in community activations, including the clinic series, goodwill visits to local nonprofits, hospitals, and schools, corporate partner visits and fundraising opportunities.

·         Maintain accurate database of media contacts and track earned media coverage.

·         Foster relationships with other departments to stay informed of new club initiatives.

·         Manage the scheduling of all player, coach and executive media requests and appearances.

·         Additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills

·         To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

·         Masterful understanding of South Florida’s diverse Hispanic community is required.

·         Strong working knowledge of all major media outlets, including but not limited to television, radio, print, digital and outdoor.

·         Exceptional English and Spanish – verbal, reading, writing, proofreading and editing skills.

·         Exceptional written and communication skills with the ability to write in numerous styles including news, feature and copywriting.

·         Excellent understanding of the South Florida soccer market, from youth through professional levels.

·         Must exhibit exceptional work ethic, professionalism, creativity, thoroughness, excellent organizational skills and good decision-making.

·         Must possess ability to recruit, train, lead and inspire department staff members.

·         Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

·         Must be an efficient worker with the ability to complete projects by deadlines.

·         Ability to work independently and as a team member.

·         Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with departments and media members.

·         Experience and training in Crisis Management.

·         Adept knowledge of soccer is required.

·         Team player with ability to integrate PR/Communications with other functions of organization.

Supervisory Responsibility

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 7 years of experience in Public Relations, Communications, Business or Marketing, or Master’s Degree and 5 years of experience in Public Relations, Communications, Business or Marketing.
